DEFEAT HB 302, THE ORGAN DONOR BILL!

 

Attention pro-lifers: Contact your representative immediately and the bill's prime sponsor, Rep. Pete Schwartzkopf, to defeat this bill, which would make organ donation an opt-out program only in Delaware.  Talking points should be the main fact that (1) anyone whose organs are harvested must be alive at the time, (2)misdiagnosis and confusion on the definition of "brain death," and (3) the element of coercion, both to families whose loved ones are considered organ donation candidates by medical personnel and to Delaware drivers who must opt out of participating in this act.  See bill info. below:

Long Title:

AN ACT TO AMEND CHAPTER 27 OF TITLE 16 OF THE DELAWARE CODE RELATING TO ANATOMICAL GIFTS AND STUDIES.

Synopsis:

The donation of organs, tissue and other parts to individuals in desperate need of a transplant has reached a crisis point. This Act allows a person to opt-out of the organ and tissue donation process, thereby incorporating the large number of people who intend to participate but simply overlook the Organ and Tissue Donor Program or inadvertently failed to opt in to the current program. This Act creates a process whereby an individual automatically participates in the Organ and Tissue Donor Program, but the individual can easily opt out of such participation at the time of applying for or renewing a driver’s license or identification card or, later, by providing the Delaware Division of Motor Vehicles with a notarized letter indicating their intent to be removed from participation in the Organ and Tissue Donor Program.
